“Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous. Praise benefits the upright. Praise the LORD with the lyre; make melodies to him with the harp of ten strings. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.” Psalm 33:1-3
Just as the choir serves to build up and embellish the song of the congregation, instrumentalists enhance and accompany the voice of the assembly and the choir alike. While the participation of the people of God in song is our highest aim, the support and artistry of other musicians in elevating that song is, well, instrumental! While not every song calls for every instrument, the tasteful addition of instrumental accompaniments can be a marvelous supplement to many hymns and acclamations. And while some amount of training is essential, we can work with musicians at any skill level and proficiency. In fact, playing an instrument in church is a great opportunity for aspiring band and orchestra students to develop musicianship and performance experience outside of the classroom or private studio!
Please accept this invitation to participate more fully, more actively, in our parish’s music ministry. If you are interested in singing in the choir, leading the congregation as a cantor, or enriching our liturgy as an instrumentalist, email Shawn Gelzleichter at sgelzleichter@gmail.com or call the rectory at 781-662-8844.
